This is a great little video from About.com that discusses the meaning of some of the most popular flower tattoos. It is a good flower tattoo video that can help you to see some different styles and looks to choose from if you happen to be thinking about incorporating flowers into your tattoo or going for a straight flower design. The more well known flowers include the rose, hibiscus, lotus and the cherry blossom. Take a look and let us know what you think…comment below or visit us on our Facebook page!

Wow, right? Done by Jun Cha, this tattoo is a collage of beloved things. There are a row of roses on the left in near full bloom phase, then the dog standing front and center and finally what looks like a skyline of a large city. Is it New York? I’m not sure, personally, but the use of the mist to blend into a mottled sky is really brilliant. There also seems to be a ribbon of a rock ledge that seems to come from the city and is what the dog is standing on. Again, brilliant design and incorporation into this collage back tattoo. This is a great example of layering to show and highlight different subjects. A highly skilled piece – my hat off to Jun Cha!

The colors and 3D look on this jellyfish tattoo are really great. A fun tattoo subject, this jellyfish is enjoying some great placement on the shoulder. The artist has done a wonderful job of placing the tentacles on the shoulder and allowing them to simply float there. The air bubbles are well done and add a nice dimension and true underwater feel to the piece. It has great movement and the colors are blended nicely. The white highlights create a reflective quality to the overall piece, making it rather eye catching and interesting.

Uh, like… how amazing is this hawk and rainbow trout back tattoo? I saw this and my jaw dropped! Done by Tim Harris, this incredible example of fine line tattooing is just too gorgeous and done perfectly. The absolute dedication to the details in the work is awe inspiring, to say the least. Take a good look at the variation of color and shading in the feathers – they represent a true understanding of what makes a red tail hawk so beautiful. Not to mention that trout! Great color blending and ability to make it appear a bit glossy in contrast to the matte look and feel of the feathers. Harris says that it will end being a full back piece with a background being planned. Wow! Can’t wait to see that!

This flowers and hummingbird tattoo was done by Gustavo Lopez of LowRider Tattoo in California. Traditionally a fan of black and white, Gustavo branched out to combine his experience and love of traditional black and white tattoo styles with color. This nature scene does seem to have a bit darker of an appeal that is normally seen with nature tattoos – but somehow that just helps to make it unique and interesting. The lines on the flowers are really good. Crisp and well colored, they are nicely done. The hummingbird and butterfly both look like they were snapped by a camera.

Incredible fine line tattoo from Mike DeVries of Off The Map Tattoos in Easthampton MA. This angel and owl back tattoo took about 14 hours over a 2 day period. Was it worth it? I think so! The female angel is beautifully articulated and every detail is soft and clean. Her expression has been captured really well with simple black and gray ink. The owl is also really well done and flies into view with the moon over its shoulder, creating an ethereal atmosphere to the scene. I also like the different quality that the owl’s wings have in comparison to the angel wings. The feathers on the owl are pretty realistic while the angel wings on her look more fantastic. She is life-like and more human looking, but the wings completely give her away.

The steady hand of the artist is what really makes this fine line flower pattern tattoo special. Without some serious patience, this would never have come to life like it did.

Okay, I know. So once you stop staring at her breasts, let me know. You almost done? :0) This color chest tattoo is certainly meant to accent her breasts and draw attention there. The layout does go with her natural lines and the colors chosen are perhaps meant to compliment her lighter skin tone. I, personally, am a little surprised at the color choices and feel that they are a bit muted for such an ambitious tattoo. I mean, if you are going to scream ‘look at me’, shouldn’t you do it at full volume? The design is nice and has a Mardi Gras feel to it, with the center fanning out to the more leafy and curling sides.

So…well…I can’t decide if this is kind of cool or kind of dorky? What do you think of this Michael Jackson tattoo? I do like the silhouette in full black ink and I do think that it’s a great pose of Michael. It’s not a close up of his face or focused on any of his famous costumes – but this one seems to celebrate his love of dance and the fluidity with which he moved. That was as much a part of his legacy, of course, as was his singing. It’s clean with a nice placement on the side of the torso and all the elements seem to be there…so…well…okay, I guess it’s a pretty good Michael Jackson tattoo!

This vine tattoo with flowers is one of the better ‘tramp stamp’ style of tattoos I’ve seen in awhile. The vines have a nice organic feel to them but are ornate enough to be artsy, especially with the flowers spaced periodically along the vine. The curves accent her curves and the colors compliment her flesh color. It’s a nice departure from the kind of tribal look that usually goes on the mid to lower back on females. And speaking of that, I do like that this one tends to be a bit more on her waist than on her lower back. The placement just gives it a slightly different feel, and helps it to be a more ‘nice’ tattoo.
