Maori Sleeve

This is a more traditional Maori tribal tattoo. While ‘tribal’ tattoos have come to cover a much broader type of tattoo, when you say “Maori Tattoo” in the traditional sense, it refers to Moko, which happens to be pretty distinct from modern, conventional tattoos.  Moko is when the skin is marked with small chisels known as ‘uhi’ and not when the skin is punctured with needles.  The type, style as well as the tools used are part of what make these tattoos common among the Polynesian people.  Traditionally, the Maori tattoos leave the skin with grooves and does not leave the skin smooth.  This tattoo design is reminiscent of the older style of tattoo, but with a smooth surface delivered by more modern needles.  Still though, it’s a great tattoo that speaks to the client’s heritage.
