Baku And Tibetan Skull

by Glenna Garcia on August 30, 2011

This marvelous sleeve was done by Camila Rocha of High Voltage Tattoo shop in Los Angeles, CA.  Reflecting the Baku and Tibetan heritage, this particular sleeve is full of wonder colors – nice yellows, red and purples help to warm up and make this mostly black and gray tattoo design stand out.  The Tibetan skull is an object used in religious ceremonies and is (or was?) made out of real human skulls.  The bone was cleaned and then cut to the desired shape, most usually a bowl shape, then edged with metal and decorated with carvings.  It had a high significance and was an important part of different ceremonies, so that certainly explains its popularity as a tattoo design choice.
